Mia Tarte

Licensed Nutritionist

Professional Chef

Mia joins our team as a professional chef and licensed nutritionist. She possesses a strong desire to empower people to take control of their health through the principles of food as medicine, as well as share how simple and fun it can be to cook and eat nourishing foods everyday. Her passion lies in educating her patients to feel empowered to make optimal, healthy lifestyle changes and offering them hope and inspiration to heal physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.

Food is both a means to feel well and nourished and also plays a beautiful role in our lives in terms of tradition, culture, memories and pleasure. Mia's goal is to guide clients in understanding their bodies' needs to help them to make food choices fun, healthy, and approachable, especially for women, children and athletes.

EDUCATION

Mia obtained her Masters of Science in Nutrition from the National University of Natural Medicine. During her senior year, she had the opportunity to intern with a certified specialist in sports dietetics and RD specializing in women’s health. The opportunity deepened Mia’s love of women’s health and sports nutrition and further illuminated that every client is unique and a one size fits all approach rarely works within the realm of nutrition. Mia also studied culinary nutrition at the Natural Gourmet Institute (now called, Institute of Culinary Education). Her classes focused on how ingredients and cooking techniques can benefit a person’s overall health and wellness.

In 2021, Mia was awarded a grant through the James Beard foundation to travel to Greece to study culinary arts and the Mediterranean diet. It was a dream opportunity that merged both her passions.

MIA’S JOURNEY

Mia was originally drawn to nutrition through her athletic pursuits. In undergrad she competed on the University of Portland’s Varsity NCAA rowing team. She has experienced first hand how nutrition, coupled with proper training can help athletes improve recovery, avoid injury and enhance training & performance.

Mias own journey to motherhood has opened up a passion for women’s health, especially working with women who are hoping to get pregnant / regulate their cycles, and those who are pregnant and postpartum.

ABOUT MIA

Her dynamic combination of professional, personal and educational experiences allow her to effectively meet people where they are, and help them achieve their health goals in a sustainable and tasty manner.

When she is not working with clients, you’ll find her training for her next marathon, spending time with her husband and daughter, walking their dog, shopping at the Ballard farmers’ market, sailing on the sound and, of course, cooking up something delicious in her kitchen.
